Babywearing

Babywearing is a term used for carrying your child in a carrier close to your body. There are many different types of carriers. There are woven wraps, soft structured carriers (SSC), mei tais, and many others. I love babywearing because I love the way it feels to have my daughter close and she loves it as well! I am able to get things done around the house while wearing her. I can easily take her on walks and outings without a big stroller. Babies who are worn are more content, calm, and quietly aware.

Safety is very important when wearing your baby or child. Please do your research on the specific type of carrier you are using. When in doubt, ask questions and connect with others regarding babywearing. I have found the online babywearing community a great resource for critiques and advice. Using a wrap or carrier can take some practice. So be patient and practice near a bed and with a spotter. Be patient with yourself and don't give up, it's definitely worth it.

My very favorite babywearing resource is my local chapter of Babywearing International (BWI). I am a part of my local BWI Facebook group and attend monthly in person meet ups. The group offers help with using carriers and answering questions.
